Unfortunately unlike in Vietnam, bear bile farming is a legal business in China, supported by the government and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) industry.The bears are left in small cages and tortured for their bile.Please raise awareness that bear bile is NOT medicine and is not a cure for anything.
Rescues depend on the voluntary surrender of bears by farmers. Many small-scale, unprofitable farms have closed and have already handed over their bears . Most remaining bear farms in China now are large-scale, with a few small illegal farms also still operating. Unfortunately, no official numbers have been released in China so exact numbers are not known. Success can only be achieved through working with the government, the TCM industry, the private sector and animal welfare advocates. Please share far ans wide and raise awareness that these poor bears need to go to a sanctuary.
