It is necessary to end the production of Styrofoam and other polystyrene products. The production of polystyrene foam is extremely detrimental to not only our bodies, but also to the environment in which we find ourselves. Little do people know, when used to hold food or drinks, this poisonous product leaches neurotoxins into the very food we eat. These polystyrene products can cause gastrointestinal distress as well as hormonal imbalances and depression. These adverse effects are not asked for when we use these products to hold our food.
These non biodegradable products also have negative effects on the environment. These products cannot be broken down organically, causing this materials to sit in landfills for hundreds of years. Polystyrene foam ends up floating in our oceans and swept ashore on our beaches. This will continue endlessly unless something is done about this crisis. We need to stop the production of polystyrene products. This must be done in order to preserve the well being of ourselves as well as the planet we live on.
