These U.S. States Need to Enforce Laws Against Leaving Dogs in the Cold

  • af: Care2 Team

Across the United States, winter is harming our beloved pets as they face life-threatening weather. Unfortunately, not all pet owners recognize the dangers of winter, leading to tragic instances of animals left outside in brutally cold weather without adequate shelter, food, or water. While all states at least consider animal neglect a misdemeanor, some states barely consider leaving a dog outside in the cold a misdemeanor, and enforcement is lax.

Sign the petition to demand Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Texas strengthen their state legal protections for pets left outside in cold weather, addressing the gaps in existing animal welfare laws.

The recent deep freeze affecting much of the country has made it starkly clear: current measures are not enough. Animals left in the cold can suffer from frostbite, hypothermia, and even death. Despite their fur, dogs and cats are vulnerable to the harsh realities of winter, just like humans.

It's not just about legal compliance; it's about compassion and ensuring that all pets have a warm place to call home during the harsh winter months.

Sign this petition to urge state legislatures to revise and enforce laws that protect pets from being neglected in cold weather.
