The special education classrooms specifically the life skills classroom as these children have different needs required to be taught in a regular classroom setting. Unfortunately for some of these children, speech is very limited, or not available at all. There have been several incidents over several years, involving several teachers specifically working and life skills classrooms, some of these teachers have been abusive to the children. As parents, some of us of parents of special education children,we have discussed incidents that have occurred two children at these schools and the area school District. There were several incidents just that I'm aware of,(for family privacy I don't want to say details or names to protect the victims)I believe this teachers is still working at Dunbar Township elementary and CASD and the life skills program K through 2nd grade. Another incident that I am aware of involves a teacher,Kelly Cunningham, that was dismissed during the current school year.when I asked the administration of the special-education department Lisa Hampy, why the teacher was dismissed at the junior high in the life skills program? The answer I received was that she was currently under investigation.
and permanently dismissed. As a mother of a child with autism, I know what it's like you send your child to school, and know that their speech is extremely limited. So if something happens to them at school and her speech is extremely limited,I'm concerned that criminal acts of immorality could be committed against them for any number of reasons. I believe that they need to do more to protect The children that are our most vonerable,The voiceless.I believe that putting cameras with audio in the special education classrooms. That way any criminal behavior would be caught on camera and there should revatively be a short investigation because it's either on camera or it's not. There would have to be more than one camera and the classroom and set different angles, also and any coat rooms or closets. CASD has installed a variety of safety devices to area schools,Devices including a device called RAPTOR.They Background Check The Parent Volunteers. The Entire High School and Jr.High was renovated. The entire junior high was renovated.Yet we lack something as essential as cameras in the special education classrooms.
Honestly I'm considering homeschooling my son this year coming, because I am afraid that something might happen to him. My son still struggles with his verbal abilities although he has made leaps and bounds. I think that's every mother's worst nightmare when they send their child to school that something will happen to their child. I think that I and every parent of a special education child should be able to send their child to school without extremely worries, that could easily be fixed with cameras installed.
