The Ohrid Lake is located in the South-Western part of Macedonia,in the Ohrid-Struga valley.It is exceptionally beautiful,rich in endemic fauna &flora,result of its 3million years of existance.It is a real treasure we are blessed with and until recent past it was protected of the greedy human kind by strict laws.(It is also protecded by UNESCO)
Unfortunately,it is not the case at present.Present authorities have granted concession of the costal area (fringed with reeds,habitat to many kinds of lake birds and other fauna &flora)to individual businesses.They brought tractors and other machinery and started plaughing the reeds and turning it into building sites and tourist facilities.Already being wounded by the transition of the sociaty,and disturbed by present destructive activities its future is predictable.And with it our future as well.
We mustn't stand and watch this happen-Urge UNESCO to take every necessery step to protect our beautiful lake immediately!
