"If Barbie is to be a Role Model, Then Make Her More Realistic."
To have Mattel, Inc. create a doll which represents all facets of the disabled community. This is important because many young girls look up to Barbie as a role model. I am familiar with this from a personal standpoint. I was a fan of Barbie as a young child. Not to mention, I am disabled as well. This brings me to my point. Young girls play with the doll when they are at an age, in which they are quite impressionable. We need to show young girls that perfection is not needed to be considered beautiful. Also, young girls need to know that beauty can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Our society already puts a lot of pressure on young girls to be thin and beautiful. Their toys do not need to further increase this necessity. Mattel needs to continue serving as a role model, but they need to do so in more realistic manner. This would make young girls have lower occurrences of eating disorders and or self-esteem issues. var fctb_tool=null; function FCTB_Init_c2349d1a70154824a3afd42276c91831(t) { fctb_tool=t; start(fctb_tool); } FCTB_Init_c2349d1a70154824a3afd42276c91831(document['FCTB_Init_16f4eaceeda648cb87db3ce790af24bb']); delete document['FCTB_Init_16f4eaceeda648cb87db3ce790af24bb']
