We live in a time of extraordinary change. And sometimes that change can bring a negative impact to society. It is change that reshapes the way we live and think. When I first heard that Blizzard was removing Tracer's Over the Shoulder pose, I was dumbfounded. I stared at the pose in-game for as long as it took me to understand why and after an hour I just couldn't find any solid reasoning. Heck, even Hanzo has the same pose, should we remove that too? Apparently, some fans of the game believed that particular pose to be overly sexualized and unfitting for the character's personality. I beg to differ. I see a strong and beautiful young women showing off her assets to the world because she has the confidence and self-esteem to do so.
In fact, many young girls today suffer from depression due to low self-esteem feeling that their appearances doesn't meet up to the standards of society. Tracer's Over the Shoulder pose is not a symbolic gesture of sex, but rather a symbol of courage and strength. She is showing us that we should not be ashamed or embarassed to freely express ourselves. That is why it is of the utmost importance that we educate people on positive body image and self-esteem. To accept and not judge. To be ourselves and not follow and try to keep up with societal standards. The people who insisted on removing Tracer's pose because they felt it was over sexualized are no better than those who body shame people for being too fat or too skinny. By removing that particular pose from Tracer, you have removed a part of her identity. With that said, I strongly believe players should have the option to choose that pose if desired. And for those individuals who disapprove, they can simply select a different pose.
