Calves are typically separated from their mothers at only a few days or even only 24 hours old. This causes distress to both mother and calf. With sufficient subsidy, each calf might remain with its mother till 5 months old, an age at which it would naturally be weaned. This is being trialled with some success in Scotland. I'd like to see such grants or subsidies introduced throughout the UK. Eventually such animal- friendly practice might even be enacted in law. We currently overproduce milk in this country so human consumers will not lose out...except maybe pay a few pence more for their milk. Cows and their calves will no longer suffer enforced separation but be able to live happier and healthier lives. Please write to your local MP to raise this issue. Thankyou
