The city of Laredo is run on what is known as a weak Mayor system. This gives most of the executive power that once belonged to the Mayor of the city to City-Manager Carlos Villareal. The primary issue and concern with this political structure is that once Mr. Villareal resigns there is already someone in line to take his place without being democratically elected into office by the citizens of Laredo, Texas. This structure is flawed and fundamentally wrong on a human rights level. If citizens are not able to vote an individual into office who truly represents and reflectstheir best interests then we are being deprived of a fundamental right that all citizens of this country should have. By signing this petition you will be ensuring that voting rights for citizens of the city of Laredo will be represented properly and effectively. - We the undersigned hereby state that by providing our signatures for this petition we will put into effect the strong-Mayoral system once again as to give the fine citizens of Laredo, Texas a strong democratic voice once again, a right for change that we will continue to pursue with confidence in our movement with a firm belief in a stronger, fairer tomorrow.
