We are all familiar with the images of confused polar bears trapped on rapidly thinning patches of ice in the Arctic as climate change decimates their home habitats.
Now, we're learning that even polar bears
in Canada are at risk of starving to death - because as global warming melts the ice in their homes, they can no longer access their main food sources.
Sign the petition to demand that major retailers and delivery companies go green to help us fight climate change!A recent study tracked 20 polar bears in the Hudson Bay region of Canada. It found that, while polar bears are creative, adaptive, resourceful hunters - nothing they are doing is enough to compensate for the threats of climate change.
Researchers found that, while the polar bears were obviously determined and clever, they were unable to find enough prey or eat enough calories.
As a result, 19 of the animals actually lost weight during the study - comparable to the amount they'd lose during a fasting period. But these polar bears weren't fasting: they were actively trying to eat as many calories as they possibly could.Only 25,000 polar bears remain in the wild, and all are classified as endangered. Their main threat to survival is human-induced climate change. But we just keep letting it get worse.
While our government leaders wring their hands and debate the basic scientific facts of climate change's existence (which are not debatable), we're going to have to turn to corporate leaders to ask for their help instead. It's not ideal, but it's what we need to do.
That's why we're asking major transportation companies and major retailers - which are, therefore, major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions - to go 100% green, and stop relying on fossil fuels.
Help us demand that UPS, FedEx, Amazon, Target, and Walmart go completely green and end their contributions to climate change! Sign the petition to save the polar bears, by halting greenhouse gas emissions, climate change, and ice-loss in their tracks.
