This is a petition to the Electoral Commissioner to register a petition for a public referendum to ban the Burqa and Niqab in all states and territories of Australia. To sign this petition you must have voted in the last election in Australia. You must provide your Christian and Surname and registered address within Australia. The Burqa is defined as: A veil that covers the entire body and face with a mesh window or grille across the eyes for the wearer to see out of. The Niqab is defined as: A veil that covers the head and face but not the eyes. We the people of Australia demand a referendum to decided whether to ban the Burqa and Niqab in all public places for reasons of security at all levels. These items of clothing prevent positive identification of the wearer. Whilst wearing these items, it is impossible to positively identify if the wearer is even a male or female. Under current Australian law this may be used by a person to prevent prosecution.
This initial petition requires at least 400 signatures to be considered by the commissioner for registration.
