Urge SeaWorld to FREE all Ocas, don't let them die in Captivity

  • by: Lucio Ortega Jr
  • recipient: SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment , Humane Society of the United State

Slowly but surely, SeaWorld is beginning to recognize the error of keeping Orcas and other sea life, captive. Stolen from the wild, they are destined to live the rest of their lives in captivity. About a year ago, SeaWorld announced that Orcas would not longer be required to perform. This was followed by an announcement 4 or 5 months later, that they would no longer breed captive Orcas. Essentially, this generation of Orcas would be the last to be exploited. This petition is a continuation of my previous petition. We can only post 5 updates and I ran out of update on the old petition.

Dear Gentlemen,

I advocate for animal welfare, both foreign and domestic, wild and captive and defender of  the Earth.

After years of protests and efforts by PETA and other animal welfare groups, I am glad that our cries for the welfare of the animals at SeaWorld Parks has been heard.

We were elated when we heard the news that Orca would no longer have to perform. But, disappointed when it did not mean they would be set free. Instead, they were to remain captive.

We received further good news when SeaWorld  announced that it was going to end breeding captive Orcas-the current generation would be the last in captivity.

With the help of the Humane Society, it is our hope that SeaWorld Parks will consider setting all the Orcas free, once and for all. Of utmost importance are the seven lonely Orcas which have been at the park for over 30 years. Since they will not get mates or be bred, there is no need to keep them in captivity. For the rest of their lives, we urge SeaWorld to set these Orcas free to live out their natural lives in freedom

.

Approximately a year ago, SeaWorld announced that they would no longer make the Orcas perform for audiences. While it marked some progress, they still continued to breed Orcas in captivity. New generations were doomed to live their lives in captivity. There have been over 65 deaths of Orcas at SeaWorld. SeaWorld is not concerned for the welfare of the animals that sustain their livelihood.

Orcas are meant to live in free flowing seawater, not in a cesspool, where they are prone to respiratory or digestive ailments which limits their live span. Today, March 18, 2016, SeaWorld announced that it would halt their breeding program. The current generation of Orcas, are the last Orcas to be bred for profit. It may seem as a victory for Orcas but it is not the case. While they will no longer have to perform or bred, they will remain captive the rest of their natural lives

.

I want to urge SeaWorld to FREE the Orcas now in captivity. There are at least t seven Orcas whom are living a life of solitude. These Orcas have been in captivity for over 30 years, and now, after their mates or offspring have died, they are alone in the pools they have lived in all their lives.

Since SeaWorld in no longer planning to breed them, and therefore no more offspring or mates to keep them company, I wish to urge SeaWorld to set them FREE, so they can live the rest of their lives in the ocean. I urge the powers that be,please consider my and (our) request to set them FREE. And, please don't transfer them to another sea park where they may face the same abuse and loneliness as seen at SeaWorld.

Sincerely,

Lucio Ortega Jr

Update #38 years ago
VICTORY !!!! Sea/World will be ending their captive breeding program and Orca shows in San Diego, Orlando, and San Antonio will be phased out by 2019. The Bill also prohibits the exportation of Orcas out of the United States, doing so carries a 100K fine. Read story, just copy and paste into your browser: http://worldanimalnews.com/victory-orca-shows-captive-breeding-banned-california/

Hello guys, thank you for signing my petition. As you know, progress takes time and since I can only update 5 times, I have to be careful what updates I share. As their stock continues to plummet and with the introduction of HR"4019 "The Orca Act", SeaWorld is now listening to consumers. The Humane Society of the United States tweeted this event. (@HSUS) As consumers, we have the power and we are #StongerTogether.
