The original forest reserve has been reduced by successive Statutory Instruments and is being threatened by further commercial and residential interests in the area. It is the only hydrological area that acts as the primary reservoir to the major underground water supply tothe capital city, Lusaka and primary source of the Chalimbana River. It is also the only large area left where indigenous trees and small animals exist within the city limits. It is proposed that the community invest in securing the area to maintain its natural habitat and ensure it is never squandered by greed and perceived residential demands.
