Save Garfield 100' Pool Length

Of the 9 San Francisco Public pools, Martin Luther King, Hamilton, Sava, North Beach and Balboa have been shortened to 75 feet. Garfield is next, with renovation starting May 2018. We can stop it, as the Rossi Pool swimmers did, with an online petition. Please sign below, because losing 25' of pool length will make it too crowded to swim (See above Photo)  Blocking off the shallow end will make it impossible for some disabled users to exercise and will reduce the pool area for toddlers and children.  Instead of one solid immoveable barrier across the entire shallow end (as pictured above), Rec and Park could use in-lane barrier which is easily installed and removed.  To see it go to this site: http://www.finisinc.com/Turnmaster-Pro

Final Rec & Park vote to approve the shortening of the pool will be Thurs.Aug.17, beginning at 10 am Here's the agenda: http://sfrecpark.org/wp-content/uploads/081717-commission.pdf Garfield is item # 7. You can call 415-831-2750 to ask when the Garfield discussion will be reached. This vote will rubberstamp the entire Renovation project, which has been a done-deal from the start. But go to City Hall, Rm. 416 if you want to register a protest, for exactly 2 minutes.
I've given up. Rebecca

EMERGENCY meeting to save Garfield! The R&P Capital Committee is meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 2pm in Rm 416, City Hall. Garfield Pool renovation is on the agenda! YOU need to show up and give a 2 minute talk explaining why the pool shortening would hurt you, or your family. I'll discuss how alternative bulkheads could solve this problem. This is the meeting where the final decision will be made about the pool length. PLEASE come and show you are a real (tax paying) Garfield user!

• URGENT action needed: Rec and Park says they don't believe our petition signatures are real.
Please email and/or call the Rec and Park General Manager Phil Ginsberg: phil.ginsburg@sfgov.org (415) 831-2700 (leave a voice mail) to show you are a real Garfield user. Restate your reasons for opposing the pool shortening. Mention the temporary bulkhead alternatives. Do the same for our District 9 Supervisor, Hillary.Ronen@sfgov.org (415) 554-5144.
Don't let them ignore us.

THANK you for signing the petition to keep Garfield Pool 100 feet long. Rossi pool got 400 signatures on their petition and that STOPPED the shortening plan. We have 150, so please reach out to all your friends and ask them for help by signing the petition too. They could start swimming ar any time, or their kids might want to swim in the future.
Also check out his in-lane solution to the "push off" barrier needed for high school swim meets:
