Save Satan's Kingdom

In the spring, New Hartford approved the development of an industrial park at Satan's Kingdom. The developer now wants the Town of Canton to change the zoning of 30.39 acres of wild and scenic acres along the Farmington River from residential to industrial in order to expand the industrial park into our town. This will include leveling the beautiful ridge along 44 that welcomes people into the Western Gateway of our town. There is no telling what kind of environmental damage and destruction these actions will bring to our town's air, water, and wildlife. Let alone the damage to our town's very character.
Say NO! to the proposed Industrial Park at Satan's Kingdom! 
Protect the Farmington River. Protect the Ridge.
Promote Responsible Land Development. Keep our town beautiful!
The undersigned want to keep the Farmington River safe and to protect the ridge along Rte 44. This petition is submitted in protest of rezoning 674 and 684 Albany Turnpike from residential to industrial.

Dear Canton Town Planner Neil Pade and Respected Members of the Planning and Zoning Commission,


We the undersigned strongly oppose the proposed zone change (residential to industrial) at 674/684 Albany Tpke (File 435, App 1459). We want to protect the Farmington River, the mountainous ridge along 44, and this area's residential community. We do not want an industrial park at the site otherwise known as Satan's Kingdom!


Please note that while we initially (first 3 pages) received quite the global response to our online petition, the vast majority (60+ pages) of our nearly 2000 signatures are from Canton and other nearby CT, NY, and MA residents. Many of the other signatures that appear are from former Canton residents and those who have toured or visited the area. Our town has so much to offer both our own residents and visitors! But we have to maintain its character, its beauty, its clean air and water, and the very things that make it great in order to attract visitors, support our current businesses, and maintain the high quality of life that our residents (human, plant, and animal!) currently enjoy. Don't be fooled by talk of dollar signs--the economic resource of our town's beauty and environmental features have served us well!

Hi all, thanks to your care and action, Borghesi withdrew his Industrial rezoning application for Satan's Kingdom last week. We expect him to reapply soon for new development. We will keep this petition up to fight any Industrial development. If he pursues an alternate form of development, we may build a new petition to make sure that the river, ridge, wetlands, and endangered wildlife are protected. We will post updates with any new petition links. For now, congratulations on Battle 1!
