Once upon a time, some two million wolves roamed in North America. Then, humans came along and ruined this. They mercilessly persecuted and cruelly exterminated these vital apex predators, almost to the point of extinction.
Then, by the 1960s, wolves were finally protected in America. At one point, killing a wolf was punishable by a fine and a year in jail. As of recent years, however, wolves have lost much of their previous legal protection. Some people have decided that they have recovered well enough. But they are still threatened! Wolves are cruelly and unnecessarily persecuted by ranchers, even though alternatives to killing the wolves exist.
These are vital apex predators, and sentient animals with as much right to live as you and I! They were once nearly driven to extinction! The importance of wolves has been demonstrated by the positive tropic cascade effect that they had when reintroduced to Yellowstone. We need to prioritise the rights of a native and vital animal to live over the financial interests of the farmers, compensating the farmers for livestock loss if need be.
We have to save the wolves and all the animals and the planet by any means necessary!
