In a shocking assault on accountability and oversight, Trump orchestrated a Friday Night Massacre, firing 15 different federal inspector generals at the departments of Defense, State, Transportation, Veterans Affairs, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Energy, Commerce and Agriculture, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency, Small Business Administration and the Social Security Administration.
This is blatantly illegal. The law dictates that the president must inform Congress of the justification for removing inspector generals at least 30 days before the firing, and must provide them with ''substantive rationale, including detailed and case-specific reasons,' all of which Trump ignored.
Demand Trump restore the fired inspector-generals!
"This is unprecedented, this is unfortunate and it doesn't seem to comport with the law. It undermines the credibility and independence of IG's and their effectiveness if they're viewed as tied to one political party or another rather than as independent and objective," said Glenn Fine, one of the inspectors general fired during Trump's first term.
Congress must hold Trump accountable for his actions and take action to protect the integrity of the federal government. If Trump is allowed to get away with this with any consequence, we shudder to think of what he'll try to do next.
Prosecute Trump for his illegal firings of our inspector-generals!
