Despite Tremont being a wonderful school district, parents choose the freedom to homeschool for a variety of different reasons. In Illinois, IHSA requires that children be enrolled for a minimum of .5 credit hours. We are requesting our district to align their requirements with the .5 credit hours suggested by IHSA.
*One reason we would like this opportunity is because we are a small, tight-knit community that works well together. It would be beautiful if homeschooled children could feel accepted and be able to play sports alongside their family, friends, and neighbors.
*Studies show that sports and being part of a team are beneficial in the life of a child. Regardless of school type, what is best for all children should matter to the community.
*There is a large amount of tax revenue coming from the dozens of homeschool families in our district. Shouldn't these families be given the same opportunity to play sports.
*Statistics show that only 3-5% of homeschool families take advantage of public school services. The district allows homeschoolers to participate in band, choir, classes, drivers-ed, and dual enrollment. It has never overwhelmed or been a negative issue for any of these programs.
Please support us and our desire to let homeschool kids represent their community and play alongside friends and relatives by signing this petition and engaging in conversations with others about this topic.
