Enough Is Enough: Demand Action to End School Shootings Now

Enough is enough. How many times do we have to say it?

December 2024 has become yet another month marked by tragedy in the United States. This time, a shooter targeted a small, private Christian grade school in Wisconsin, serving children from kindergarten through high school.

Three lives were lost - a student, a teacher, and the teenaged shooter. Six others were injured, two critically. Families have been shattered, a school community devastated, and an entire nation left grieving.

This tragedy was preventable. No one had to die. No one had to cower in terror in their classrooms. No parent should ever have to learn that their child has become the latest victim of a school shooting.

We know what needs to happen: Congress must act now to enact common-sense gun safety laws that protect our children, our teachers, and our communities.

Research has shown repeatedly that stronger gun laws save lives. States with stricter gun regulations have fewer gun deaths, yet our federal government has failed to act. Too many of our Congressional lawmakers have been cowards for too long, yielding to the interests of the National Rifle Association lobby (NRA) and putting the profits of the gun lobby over the lives of children.

Any lawmakers who continue to do nothing and who instead simply call for meaningless "thoughts and prayers" without legislative and policy changes have children's blood on their hands.

This shooting occurred just two days after the U.S. marked the 12th anniversary of the Sandy Hook massacre, the deadliest school shooting at an elementary school in our nation's history. In the years since, countless lives have been lost to gun violence, while lawmakers have yielded to the influence of the gun lobby instead of protecting the people they serve.

We can't afford more inaction. The next Congress is unlikely to prioritize gun safety, which is why the current Congress must act immediately while President Joe Biden is still in office. We need universal background checks, red-flag laws to disarm those who pose a danger, and bans on high-capacity weapons designed for war - not classrooms.

Sign this petition to demand that lawmakers take action now. Every day we wait, lives are at stake.
