When purchasing a home you start getting what is called a property tax. This is a tax generally levied by either the state or county. This tax if left unpaid will cause the government to seize your home and auction it off to recover those taxes. This tax applies for the entire life of the home. The home could have no lien or mortgage on it, but will continue to have a tax applied to it. The desired outcome of this petition would be to remove property tax from the home owners primary residence. Would not apply to secondary properties, rental properties, or business property.
To be able to own the home once all liens, mortgages, and etc against it are paid off. Without out worry of losing the property due to a failure to pay a tax.
