Make the Bicknell's Thrush Vermont's State Bird Now!

Vermont is one of the most picturesque States in the Union, with much outstanding scenery, including forests, fields, and lakeshores. According to eBird, over 380 species have been documented within the state lines. However, So have over six-hundred thousand  people. They need to appreciate the natural wonder that they live in. It's important to make sure that the population is educated about the nature surrounding them, so they can have an appreciation for their biologically rich heritage.

One way we do this is by the Representative State Bird, a symbol of state identity and pride. However there is a problem. The current State Bird of Vermont is unsatisfactory.  It is the Hermit Thrush. I love the shy Hermit Thrush, but it is a poor representative of Vermont Wildlife! At some point or another the Hermit Thrush can be seen in all 50 States!!  There are many, many others that would be preferable. However, if Vermont wants a Thrush, an obvious replacement stands out, one that far better represents the people and nature of Vermont: The Bicknell's Thrush. The Bicknell's Thrush's enthralling song arguably outmatches that of every other american thrush, including the Hermit's. Unfortunately, The Bicknell's Thrush is a rare and endangered species that only breeds regularly in the Northeastern Adirondacks Mountains. According to the International Bicknell's Thrush Conservation Group, there are fewer than 125,000, which is an extremely small population for a songbird.  If we make The Bicknell's Thrush the Official Vermont State Bird, we can help raise awareness of the plight of the species. No one wants their State Bird extinct, and if you sign this petition, we can help secure the fuure of this fascinating Bird that is unique to Vermont's Region.

Vermont is not alone. There are many other states that need to change their State bird. (including Texas, Florida, Kentucky, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Please go sign the petitions for their state if you support better state birds) Join me in Starting this important change!
