Like many of you, I have lived in our peaceful rural community for most of my life. However, some of you are not lifelong residents, but moved into the area more recently. Whichever the case, the quiet rural landscapes, the
farm and pastureland, and the strong friendships we share have great
appeal to us all. We recognize that there's something special to this
lifestyle and do not take it for granted.
We have unique shared experiences of life in a rural countryside. Many
have been the recipient, donor or both, as neighbor comes to assist
neighbor in time of need. Respect for the land is paramount. Through good stewardship, we use the land to grow timber, grain, vegetables and animals. These products play a crucial role to the benefit of the nation at
large.
But now, this way of life is in jeopardy. The relentless march of dense subdivisions threatens to erase the community and values we hold dear. The statistics are alarming: according to the American Farmland Trust, we lose roughly three acres of farmland every single minute, the number may be higher for Baldwin County. At this rate, our rural heritage—our traditions, our peaceful landscapes, our very way of life—could soon be reduced to mere memories.
Allowing high-density development in our community would have devastating consequences. It would overwhelm our local resources, disrupt our fragile environmental balance, and dismantle the strong social fabric that makes our community more than just a place—it makes it a home. If we stand idle, we allow our identity to be replaced by overcrowded streets, dwindling green spaces, and a community that no longer reflects the values we cherish.
We must act now! Our elected officials need to hear from us. As citizens and constituents, our voices matter. We urge our elected officials to recognize the importance of preserving our rural lifestyle and the values that define our community. By enforcing the existing RA land-use zoning regulations, they can honor the trust we place in them and ensure that our shared heritage is protected for generations to come.
Together, we can work toward solutions that protect our farmland, preserve our close-knit community, and maintain the rural identity we all cherish.
Now is the time to act. If you appreciate this community and want to protect it, please sign the petition today. Together, we can stand up for our way of life and make sure it lasts for future generations.
