We demand that the Federal Liberal government under Justin Trudeau not follow through with the legalization of marijuana within Canada. The Federal Liberals are planning to legalize marijuana in Canada by 2018, and marijuana is already being openly marketed throughout Canada, and this advertising is seen by Canada’s young an old. Canadians must be made aware of the impact marijuana will continue to have on youth despite the proposed changes in the law by the Federal Government.
There will be progressing problems with impaired driving, workplace accidents, the adverse health consequences of long-term abuse, the increased rate of drug-related crime with other drugs and the growing use and sale of marijuana to Canadian youth under the age of 18. The existing Federal Government states that the legalization of marijuana will protect Canadian youth, protect our health and enhance public safety, and will be to a lesser degree profitable for drug dealers and less available for young people. Unfortunately, none of this could be further from the truth, and Canada will not see any changes the current government is stating will happen with these new marijuana laws.
If Marijuana ever becomes legal, stats have shown that over 40 per cent of the population will be smoking marijuana and or end up trying it. Organizations such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Canadian Auto Association have pointed out impaired driving charges will increase, and the cost of enforcing these laws will also increase. The Canadian Auto Association reported that 1 in 5 Canadians has driven high, and marijuana will affect a person's ability to operate a vehicle, and this is not to mention the workplace accidents associated with marijuana use. The legalization of Marijuana is just one more problem that Canadians of all ages will have to deal with; it is one more addictive substance for Canadians to purchase. Signing this petition is saying no to the legalization or marijuana within Canada, and demanding the current Federal Liberal Government not move forward with legalizing marijuana.
