Previously a hunting contest in rural New Zealand where children were to compete to kill the greatest number of feral cats for a cash prize was canceled after a backlash from animal rights organizations. New Zealand, an island nation, has aggressively tried to control what they label invasive species from overwhelming its native wildlife.
This cat hunt still exists and it seems instead of creating alternative solutions, the New Zealand government continues to choose living by the sword. I would like to express with the support of those who agree with me that the solution for cats killing native or even protected birds is not our issue to solve. I would like to see the New Zealand wildlife dictate its own outcome on what survives regardless if that particular creature faces extinction such as the kiwi bird, I am certain we can all trust that in survival nature will decide what has a place to stay and not just humans alone.
