Support A Smoke Free Nunavut! Ban Smoking in Multi-Unit Dwellings and Save Our Children!

Second Hand Smoke (SHS) contains more than 7000 chemicals, 250 of which are harmful and 69 are known to cause cancer. SHS is proven to cause death in non-smoking adults and children. SHS causes lung cancer, heart and lung diseases in non-smoking adults and children. Children are especially susceptible to exposure of SHS because they are less able to protect themselves.

There is no safe level of exposure to SHS, any amount is harmful. The only way to fully protect non-smoking adults and children is to make the entire building smoke free. This petition declares all residential complexes and condominiums, attached and semi-attached row houses be smoke free by law, to ensure the safety and health of our non-smokers and especially the children.

57% of Nunavummiut smoke, and 40% of our cancer related deaths are caused by lung cancer. Children may develop asthma, lung cancer, respiratory infections and diseases and even brain tumours from being exposed to smoke. Nunavut relies on multi-dwelling units to provide housing and no one should be forced to breathe cancer and death causing smoke because of another person's habit. Sign this petition and together lets stop SHS in our multi-unit dwellings and save our children from entirely preventable diseases. Currently we are the worse off district in Canada for health related issues, let's make our future brighter and healthier, support a Smoke Free Nunavut!
