Cashmere is a beautiful town with so much to offer. Unfortunately, there is a code that prohibits having chickens, ducks, or rabbits on lots smaller than 1 acre in city limits. Anyone who has raised poultry knows that they don't need that much space! We are proposing to allow a reasonable amount of hens (4), no roosters, on smaller lots. Coops must be reasonably clean and pest-free, food must be in rodent-proof containers. We need to show City Council and the Mayor that the community at large supports this change.
It's so important now, more than ever, to have the freedom to control our food sources. Raising a small number of poultry or rabbits can produce sustainable, healthy food for an entire family.
