In an effort to assure an intelligent voting citizenry we feel it is necessary to enact a Federal law to make any statement made from a media source or person holding public office which is inaccurate and not based in fact both civically and criminally liable. This would in no way intrude on the first amendment rights, it would only guarantee that expressions under that right for certain avenues which have a public duty are truthful and accurate. The American public should also have a first Amendment right to receive accurate information from those they place in office and venues which have a duty to report the facts. This is essential for the public to make intelligent voting decisions in those matters concerning the function of government and their daily lives.
