Legalize Freshwater Fishing at Tewinkle Park in Costa Mesa!

In this great city, Costa Mesa, the place we call home, avid fisherman like myself have no place to freshwater fish. We once were able to freshwater fish at Tewinkle Park however, Tewinkle Park was deemed illegal to fish, as fishing line would clog the pumps for the fountains located in the lake. The City Councils main reason for shutting down fishing at Tewinkle Park was because of the fountains. Now I know some of you maybe be asking what is the purpose of the fountains, do they benefit the lake? The answer is no, these fountains are located above water and shoot water into the air, serving no purpose but to look good. The fountains may make the lake look more "flashy" but most people enjoy the true beauty of nature. Saying this, people may use the lake to become a bit closer to nature yet they don't have to travel far, but the fountains take away from that experience, making the lake "artificial" as to say. The fountains also use energy that could be used else where, or not at all as it furthers pollute the air, and if we didn't have the fountains in the lake it would make Costa Mesa's air a tad cleaner and it would also bring a bit of nature to Costa Mesa. So in the end the fountains are not needed and serve no purpose to the lake, park or people of Costa Mesa.

Tewinkle Park is a great park suiting everyone's needs. But the fisherman's needs are taken away because of a fountain that has no purpose. We have the right to fish and that right is taken away, as we have no place to fish. But the solution is simple take out the fountains at Tewinkle Park! Are fountains more important than Costa Mesa's fisherman? I have talked to many avid fisherman living in Costa Mesa and surrounding cities that were very upset that Tewinkle Park was made illegal to fish at. Not only have I talked to avid fisherman that were upset about Tewinkle Park, I have talked to people that are getting into the sport, or have kids that they want to introduce to the sport, but they have no place to go that is friendly enough, or has a healthy population of fish that can be caught by beginning fishermen. Some also fear that fisherman will leave trash, or keep fish. These are realistic fears, but there are more good responsible fisherman that throw away their trash and want the lake to be healthy than there are bad, irresponsible fisherman that disrespect the lake. Also keeping fish from the lake will mess up the ecosystem within the lake, but most of the fishermen want a freshwater fishing spot to fish purely for the sport, the other fishermen looking for a tasty fish meal aren't educated in what species of fish you eat. The solution to this is to have someone tell them, that these fish are not meant to be eaten which any avid fishermen will tell them. So help me turn those no fishing signs into fishermen welcome!

Today with how much crime and drugs that are out there its a shame to have kids fishing in illegal places, when they have no other places to fish, be taken so offensively when they could be doing drugs, and they have no place to fish, and their doing no harm! So one reason you should sign to make Tewinkle Park legal to fish at so kids can stay out of trouble and enjoy the park and its great fishing the lake has. You should sign this petition so the people of Costa Mesa can have a family friendly park that also offers great fishing. Adding fishing to the list of things you can do at Tewinkle Park will make the park look better and the city look better. Another reason as to why you should sign this petition is the people of Costa Mesa and neighboring cities have no close place to freshwater fish, the closest place to freshwater fish is Carl Thorton Park located in Santa Ana, which is a far drive, when there is a very fishable lake right here in Costa Mesa that should be legal. This far drive uses more gas, money and sends more pollution into the air which isn't need as there could be a lake that you could fish at biking distance. The last reason I'm going to say, is the species of fish in the lake are extremely fun to catch and are absolutely addicting and if you can get young kids to catch the addiction its one more thing that will keep kids from doing wrong. So please sign this petition and help me make freshwater fishing at Tewinkle Park in Costa Mesa legal!
