GEORGE R. PAPANIA WAS CONVICTED ON 12/5/2015 OF 2 FELONY COUNTS OF ANIMAL TORTURE/ABANDON ANIMALS (NEVADA REVISED STATUTES 574.100) AFTER A JURY TRIAL. (Case No. CR-0007986)
HE WAS ALLOWED TO REMAIN OUT OF CUSTODY IN SPITE OF THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY OBJECTION AND HIS SENTENCING DATE IS COMING UP ON JANUARY 25, 2016 IN NYE COUNTY DISTRICT COURT, DEPT. 2, THE HON. JUDGE ROBERT LANE.
A STRONG MESSAGE NEEDS TO BE PRESENTED THAT ANIMAL TORTURE AND ANIMAL CRUELTY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED IN ANY COMMUNITY, ESPECIALLY WHERE THIS HAPPENED IN NYE COUNTY NEVADA - AND THIS MAN BE GIVEN JAIL TIME.
THESE ANIMALS SUFFERED GREATLY, ABANDONING ANIMALS WITHOUT FOOD OR WATER IS A SLOW AND TORTUOUS DEATH. THIS MAN WAS A BREEDER AND CHARGED A MINIMUM OF $2,500 FOR EACH DOG HE SOLD. THESE WERE OLDER DOGS AND HE JUST LEFT THEM TO DIE IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER WITH NO FOOD OR WATER, TEMPS WERE IN THE FREEZING RANGE. ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICERS DOCUMENTED AND FOUND ONE DOG EATING FECES AND DIRT AS NO FOOD WAS PRESENT, THE OTHER HAD DIED AND OTHERS WERE RESCUED IN PERILOUS CONDITION. ONE ANIMAL RESCUED LOST A LEG, THOSE 3 WERE ALL PLACED IN ONE CAGE.
AS TO THIS MANS HISTORY, PAPANIA (BUT NOT CHARGED) LOST NUMEROUS DOGS THAT DROWNED IN HIS BACK YARD STATING HE WAS UNABLE TO GET TO THEM OVER AT LEAST SEVERAL DAYS.
PLEASE SEND A STRONG MESSAGE RESPECTFULLY TO BOTH THE HON. JUDGE ROBERT LANE AND DISTRICT ATTORNEY ANGELA BELLOW THAT ANIMAL TORTURE AND CRUELTY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED WITHOUT SUBSTANTIAL CONSEQUENCES AND ACCOUNTABILITY MEANING JAIL TIME.
Per Animal Control Officer on the scene:
Susan Ryhal, NV
"Being the Animal Control Officer who found these animals in the condition they were in, I will forever have the image of these dogs in my mind. Seeing this dog use his badly broken leg to dig feces out of the mud to eat was horrific. I would like for this man to be an example to this community that the cruel treatment if your animals will NOT be tolerated.Although this man had not been charged in the cruelty on the other four dogs that died in his care due to neglect and cruelty, he has and will again neglect and cruel treat his dogs. They are nothing more than a source of income for him. An object. A thing. Not a loving pet. Please send him to jail!!! Forbid him from owning animal as part of his probation. Please, jail time!!! "
Thank you Nye County Animal Control Officer Susan Ryhal for your superior crime scene investigation and documentation that brought about the conviction of this defendant. We are so sorry that you have to endure these horrid memories of finding and dealing with them. thank you for your service. Bob Wannberg, Petition Author
