To the Alabama State Code, add to Section 13A-6-20 (Assault in the first degree): %u201CWhile driving with a suspended or revoked drivers license he causes serious physical injury (as defined in Section 32-5-200(b)) or death to another person by means of a motor vehicle.%u201D
When a person drives with a suspended or revoked license, he is blatantly disobeying the law. When that person injures or kills another person, he should be held accountable for his actions. I do not believe that this should be dependent on whether or not the person was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the injury to the other person.
