Tell Louisiana Zoo: Don't Let Chimp Smoke Cigarettes!
Candy, a captive chimpanzee in a Baton Rouge, LA amusement park, smokes cigarettes that patrons give her and drinks soda instead of water.
This treatment is shockingly cruel given all we know about the dangers of smoking and drinking soft drinks. Obviously, chimps face the same health risks as humans who use these products. Allowing patrons to throw cigarettes in Candy's cage encourages animal cruelty and sets a bad example for children who visit the park.
This treatment also contradicts a federal law that requires captive chimps to receive the same treatment as those in the wild. On September 14th, captive chimps' status changed from threatened to endangered.
It is cruel to let any animal smoke cigarettes or put anything harmful into their bodies. This is especially true for endangered species. Please sign the petition to urge Dixie Landin' Amusement Park to ban the practice of giving animals cigarettes and soft drinks!
