Stop The Hunting of Bobcats in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania is once again gearing up for the "Bobcat season" and will be issuing licenses for hunters to kill Bobcats. There are only estimated to be 3,500 Bobcats in the entire state.
Dear Governor Rendell:
Please ban the hunting of Bobcats in our state. There is not an overabundance of bobcats requiring a "thinning out" of the population; the goal of the hunters apparently is to collect pelts.
The bobcat is not and has never been a threat to humans. Its diet consists mainly of small rodents, rabbits, squirrels and the occasional young deer. The number one reason humans encounter a bobcat in the wild is because of human need to "own" an exotic cat. (Many people, who adopt bobcats while they are cubs, soon find that the novelty wears off and the cat is then abandoned, abused or neglected. Many bobcats are let go in the wild by ignorant humans.)
We ask you, as pet owners to another pet owner, how can you allow a hunt that would allow for the merciless killing and trapping of cats that have the ability to act as a house-cat?
