Raise the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards
Senator Carper was recently mentioned in the Los Angeles Times as a key vote in the fight to raise fuel economy standards for U.S. Automobiles and thus a central target by the auto interests that appose raising the standards.
Let Senator Carper know that you would like to drive automobiles, SUVs, and light Trucks that use less fuel. Doing so will help protect the environment, eliminate the need to drill in the Artic, and save money at the gas pump.
Raising the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standard of our nation's cars and light trucks to 40 miles per gallon by 2012 is the single most effective thing we can do to curb our dangerous dependence on oil. It would also have a significant impact on Delawares air quality because a reduction in automobile fuel consumption will equate to a reduction in the numerous air pollutants and toxins emitted by automobiles into the air. There would also be impressive consumer and economic benefits, creating over 54 million dollars in net savings to Delaware consumers by 2012 and providing a Net increase in Delaware Jobs in 2015.

Please support and do all you can to pass legislation that will raise the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standard of our nation's cars, SUV's and light trucks to 40 miles per gallon by 2012.
As the US Senate begins to debate which direction our nations energy policy should turn, it makes sense that we look towards policies that will provide us with long-term energy solutions that reduce our dependence on oil.
Raising the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standard of our nation's cars and light trucks to 40 miles per gallon by 2012 is the single most effective thing we can do to curb our dangerous dependence on oil.. This improved fuel economy standard would save 10 times more oil than all the oil that is economically recoverable from drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge, while also saving the average driver more than $2,000 at the gas pump over the life of the car
And contrary to what is being said by the auto industry; the Union of Concerned Scientists estimated the effect that increasing fuel economy standards to an average of 40 miles per gallon by 2012 would have on jobs in the year 2015. They found that, in 2015, the benefits resulting from investments in fuel economy could lead to 182,700 new jobs throughout the country, including a net gain in new jobs for Delaware.
