Dear Elected Official,
I'm concerned about proposed legislation that would allow some insurers to make patients pay the full cost of mammograms, emergency care, and access to an OB/GYN or other specialist.
This legislation, the Small Business Health Fairness Act of 2005, S. 406/H.R. 525, would create Association Health Plans (AHPs), a new class of insurance that would be exempt from all state laws protecting consumers and patients. Companies would be allowed to offer insurance without the reserves to pay claims. Patients would lose their right to appeal when their insurance company denies their claims.
We cannot allow the big insurance companies to use rising costs as an excuse to offer substandard care. I urge you to oppose S. 406/H.R. 525.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
