President Obama's new mercury safeguards will protect our communities from dangerous mercury and other air pollution spewed from coal-fired power plants. This protection will save tens of thousands of lives each year.

Dear President Obama,
Because of your courage and leadership, mothers, families and communities everywhere can breathe a little easier -- literally. The recently announced Mercury and Air Toxics Standards for power plants are strong, sensible safeguards that will protect Americans, and particularly pregnant women and young children, from toxic mercury and other dangerous heavy metals. I stand with the Sierra Club in thanking you for rejecting calls by corporate special interests and polluter lobbyists to weaken this standard, and instead for siding with protecting public and environmental health by issuing this historic rule.
Moving forward, please know that I'll support any efforts of your Administration to uphold scientific integrity and protect public health.
