Put an End to Intensive Hen Confinement

The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act of 1960 was supposed to protect egg-laying hens from the torture of battery cages, but sadly, the Act has been largely ignored. As the world's third largest egg-producing nation, it's a shame that 70% of India's eggs still come from battery cages.
These cages are often no bigger than a standard sheet of paper. In a battery cage, a hen cannot spread her wings and will never have the chance to perch, dust bathe, or forage for food - all essential, natural behaviors.
Not only are more than 180 million of these egg-laying battery caged hens condemned to a life of confinement, neglect, and misery, the unhygienic eggs they produce are not very healthy for human consumption.
Write to India's Ministry of Environment and Forests to enforce their initial rulings against battery cage confinement!
Dear Smt. Jayanthi Natarajan, Minister of Environment and Forests,
The Animal Welfare Board of India has recommended the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Egg Laying Hens) Rules that prohibit confining hens in battery cages in compliance of section 11(1)(e) of the PCA 1960 Act. Yet, your ministry has not acted on the recommendations and hence egg-laying hens continue to be confined in these torturous cages.
In a battery cage, a hen will live out her entire adult life on less space than an average sheet of writing paper. She cannot spread her wings and will never have the chance to perch, dust bathe, or forage for food - all essential, natural behaviors.

Now, by notifying this rule, you have a golden opportunity to bring relief to more than 180 million of these egg-laying battery caged hens.
Please ban battery cages for egg-laying hens and end this needless torture.
Thank you,
