Over the years Microbeads and Microplastics have been entering our eco system. Microplastics come from plastic (garbage) in our environment that break down into smaller and smaller bits of plastic and wash into our rivers, lakes and streams. Microbeads also very small and are manufactured as an additive for industrial processes, and in home and personal care products. These wash through our sewage treatment process unobstructed and then enter our rivers and lakes.
Microplastics and Microbeads have been detected in the Great Lakes and in a recent study released by the Canadian Government, Microplastics and Microbeads in a significant quantity can have harmful effects to aquatic life forms.
