This is a stall on a market in Leek, UK, selling "memorabilia". I was horrified to see this Nazi flag hung up on display on the stall. This would be illegal in Germany and France.
If the Market Authorities allow such flags of fascism to remain, they are suggesting that the values of the brutal, racist regime that they represent are acceptable in Leek.
This will not stand. We must fight fascism wherever we find it.
A letter was written to the Leek Town Mayor to complain, and he replied with a pitiful response claiming it would be censorship to force removal of the Nazi flag. He also said, "I know that it has been displayed on his stall for a long time". How shocking that the Mayor has been aware of this and no action was taken! The Mayor also warned that if Nazi flags were banned, then things like real fur could be banned next. Sounds good to me.
The Mayor has pledged to "make mention of it at our next full council in September". We need to get as many signatures as possible to show those responsible that symbols of hate are not welcome at our markets in Leek.
If this is a modern Nazi flag, this is legitimising and contributing to a concerning rise in right-wing extremism in the UK. If this is an antique Nazi flag, he does not need to fly them publicly but could keep them in a drawer for serious collectors of military memorabilia to examine.
Sign now to tell the market authorities that Nazi flags should not be publicly displayed outside of museums.
