BAE indiscriminately sell arms to regimes including those with appalling records of human rights abuses, for example Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Libya, where BAE weapons were used against civilians peacefully protesting. We want BAE off our campus; we don't want our tuition fees invested in such an unethical company who profit from bloodshed and repression.
We therefore call on Professor Mark E Smith, Vice Chancellor of Lancaster University, to support the withdrawal of Lancaster University's investment into British Aerospace Engineering. We wish for the University to dispose of any such affiliation with the international arms trade and to allow students to decide for themselves whether or not they wish to fund the proliferation of arms and research into weaponry, which currently they tacitly consent to through paying the University tuition fees. We call on you to invest the 2.36% of the University's portfolio currently invested into BAE systems into an ethical company.
