Thomas Bonte - music software developer of musescore in the Netherlands Is maintaining a music piracy website called pianofiles.com.
Bonte boasts that the site has a million and a half members, some of them listing over 2,000 books. These are current editions by living composers. Compositions by creative people who have worked hard all their lives to write the music we love.
The reason Bonte maintains the site is for the advertising dollars he gets form large corporations. He has no other involvement there. There is no moderation or oversight, it is simply a convenient meeting place for thieves.
Inside former members of Thomas Bonte's pianofiles.com are quick to point out that the thousands of listings on the site are merely the tip of the iceberg. Serious thieves use the site to trade unsecured PDFs for anything they can get through private e-mail transactions.
Below is a partial list of publishers who are being freely distributed on pianofiles.com, You are invited to join the effort to take this illegal and damaging site down.
This is what open source, un-moderated piracy sites do for the arts. It teaches that any composer's work, music that represents years of training, devotion and talent to create, is worthless.
This is what Thomas Bonte (founder/owner of pianofiles.com and musescore) has done for the arts. He has violated the civil rights of every composer and the professionals who serve them by creating an online community for thievery and extortion.
