The longer we delay addressing global climate change, the greater the danger becomes. For polar bears, the risks are already becoming reality. Mother polar bears are falling through thinning Arctic ice and getting trapped on tiny ice islands that once connected to land.
Already, Arctic temperatures are rising twice as fast as the rest of the planet.
In addition, Shell Oil is getting closer to drilling just outside the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge – the uncorrupted wilderness countless polar bears call home.
Without controls on greenhouse gases or greater protection for the Arctic Refuge and its adjacent territory, polar bears are in grave danger. Their loss would not only be a tragedy in and of itself but would cause the disruption of an ecosystem that has existed for thousands of years.
We ask that Congress stop acceding to the demands of the oil companies for their immediate profit and pay attention to solving the problems that will affect our future for generations --- possibly forever.
Acknowledge the problem of global climate change and do something before it is too late!
