Stop the Deportation of Brenda Namigadde
- by: Care 2
- recipient: Rt. Hon Theresa May, MP Secretary of State for the Home Office,
Brenda Namigadde is a lesbian in the U.K. who will be deported back to Uganda on Friday, January 28th 2011. She has not been granted asylum because officials say that there is not sufficient proof that she is a lesbian.
In Uganda, homosexuality is illegal. In the wake of the murder of David Kato, an openly gay advocate in Uganda, it is even more important that Brenda be given asylum.
Please join me in asking the UK to grant her asylum.
UPDATE: A temporary injunction was granted on Friday and Brenda was NOT deported. She had already boarded the plane when the injunction was issued. However, we must continue to ask the British government to grant Brenda permanent asylum. She cannot go back to Uganda. Her life will be in grave danger there.
We the undersigned implore you to grant asylum to Brenda Namigadde, a 29-year-old lesbian who was set to be deported to Uganda on Friday January 28th, 2011. A temporary injunction was granted at the 11th hour, but now we are asking you to grant Brenda permanent asylum. Her life will be in danger in Uganda.
In January, David Kato, an openly gay advocate in Uganda, was beaten to death with a hammer. In Uganda, homosexuality is illegal.
Brenda faces real danger if she is deported back to her country. In the wake of this brutal murder, it has become even more important that Brenda be granted asylum. Please grant her asylum!
Thank you for your time.
