The Canadian government is currently strongly considering removing the "threatened" status of humpback whales residing off the coast of British Columbia. In what seems like far too much of a coincidence, changing the designation would likely enable the impending Northern Gateway pipeline project to send oil tankers through the protected (for now, anyway) waters where the whales raise their young and feed.
Though the government initially received the recommendation to change the classification of humpback whales three years ago, it decided against it based on the public's opinion. Let's prove ourselves influential again by reminding Canadian politicians that we still want to protect the whales, and that that shouldn't be compromised due to corporate oil interests.
