I was appalled to hear that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has abdicated its responsibility to protect animal welfare by eliminating requirements designed to prevent the spread of tuberculosis in elephants, despite overwhelming evidence that federal oversight is necessary. Circuses such as Ringling Bros. have had sick elephants on the road, and this disease threatens animals, circus staff, arena workers, and the general public. Please listen to the experts and take tuberculosis seriously--before it's too late.
