The south beach of Aqaba and the coral reef environment are a sustainable resource for tourism in Jordan. It is with regret however, that many tourists are deplored at the lack of care and attention this resource is afforded and as such have initiated this petition so that the points noted below may be raised with the relevant and responsible authorities for action.
- Damage to Marine Environment
- Rubbish and general detritus underwater in the in-shore areas and smothering the coral reef
- Lengths of fishing line smothering and breaking coral reef.
- Fish traps/baskets in Marine Reserve locations
- Indiscriminate walking over the coral reef
- Breaking off coral reef and removal for souvenirs
- Hygienic cleanliness of the public beach areas
- Over abundance of flies resulting from human excrement, food remains etc. on the beach.
- Unauthorised overnight camping and BBQs on beach and subsequent rubbish inclusive of broken glass
- Repugnant odours from public toilets and untreated sewage
- Zoning of Dive /Snorkel/ Swimmers only areas, protecting persons entering and exiting these areas from the shore from jet skis, glass bottom boats etc. This will prevent unwanted accidents and deaths from boats and jet skis running over people in the water.
- Heavy trucks on beach front despite signs prohibiting such parking.
- Unfavourable behaviour and attitudes towards visitors, in particular the harassment of females
