The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) recently declared the field at Don Mills Middle School (bordering Lawrence Ave E and The Donway East) as surplus, meaning that it will be offered for sale and could end up in the hands of developers. There is still the opportunity to convince the TDSB to reverse this designation.
This property is important green space, and if it is developed the negative impact would be irreversible. The field is in constant use even after school hours and on weekends by many different sporting groups and local residents. This is a community asset that cannot be replaced if it is sold and developed.
The decision to declare it surplus was made secretly in June and only recently came to light. As local residents and users of the field, we want the TDSB trustees to know we dispute this decision and would like them to reverse it.
