Dear King’s Head and Hope’s Theatre Management,
We are writing to you to express our opposition to a new play called 'Sex with animals' that has been staged in the King's Head theatre and the Hope theatre. We are asking you to stop this play with an immediate effect. Please, find attached two petitions calling on ban of this play which obtained 1734 signatures altogether so far.
We understand the play has been reviewed as 'obscenely good'. We are aware of the fact the play has been scheduled to run from the 27th of May until the 21st of June 2014 which unfortunately did not allow us to react in time to prevent staging this play in your theatres.
As the name of the play 'Sex with animals' suggests, it is absolutely horrifying and disgusting that the play of this name has been staged in the name of exploration of animal sexuality. We oppose abuse and sexual exploitation of animals suggested by this play which is already implied in the name of the play. We also oppose all propaganda suggesting or encouraging abuse and sexual exploitation of animals by this play, otherwise termed as bestiality or zoophilia.
We are outraged by this shameful subliminal propaganda of bestiality and zoophilia. Our ground is that which pretends to be an exploration of animal sexuality is in fact not a play on words but on the human psyche inviting a viewer, already defined as a 'confused and perverted', to engage in what the play calls 'sex with animals'. The meaning of 'sex with animals' is entirely different to 'a sex of an animal with an animal' (simply animal's sex). Therefore it appears the play's name 'Sex with animals' implies/suggests a human person engaged in sex with animalS - plural - that is using not just one but many animals as objects of sexual gratification. This act despises the very notion of justice, morality, ethics, fairness or any use of common sense.
Further the play refers to "bonobo chimps to Brooklyn sex parties, gay penguins, to failed first gay sex... no stone is left un-humped" which inevitably appears to be or reveals a well-framed message from an unidentified group of men with homosexual, bestiality or zoophilia tendencies - to promote gay sex parties and to blur the boundaries between human and animal sexuality. Their message simultaneously targets gay people, predominantly, and encourages them to abuse and sexually exploit animals - "We are all animals: perverted, loving, confused creatures...” This is by all means disgraceful and profoundly insulting to all members of gay community especially who do not contemplate animal abuse and would never partake in animal sexual exploitation, and to all who care and fight for animal rights and welfare.
Therefore we demand this group of men with homosexual and bestiality tendencies, responsible for promoting and allowing this play, to be identified and along with dramaturg, producer, director, and all the creative cast to be publicly challenged and hold accountable for:
Lastly, we are calling on launching an investigation into whether any animals in their personal care are in danger of abuse or sexual exploitation.
We look forward to hearing from you.
