The story of Nina:
Nina was a 8 months old caracal, ambassador caracal of Wild Cats World/Babette de Jonge, who lived at the Stichting Leeuw sanctuary in Anna Paulowna, on Landgoed Hoenderdaell, in the Netherlands, and was in their care.
Nina was favourite among all visitors, workers, the head- caretaker and all volunteers, as she was so easy going and very friendly to humans, even though she wasn't tame but raised by her mother. When Nina was 3,5 months old she moved to the sanctuary as mommy Silver always starts picking the hairs of the cubs from that age on.
Nina's owner Babette was in the board of the sanctuary for a few months to share her knowledge and expertise. The rest of the boards had some ideas that wouldn't improve the welfare of the resident cats, so there were words. Also about the owner hiring a circustrainer behind the back of the other boardmembers. Babette said it wasn't good to have him in the sanctuary to "train" the cats, many of which were old and retired circustigers.
Exactly a day after the quarrel about this; the owner and his family were very angry at Babette for this, Nina was found badly and strangely hurt. It was said this happened in her inside enclosure, where strangely NO signs of an accident (through a fall) or other threats by the fencing were ever found.
After lots of investigations in name of WCW (the sanctuary didn't want to know the reason - as they of course already knew) and talks with lots of people involved, we can now say for sure that Nina was intentionally hurt twice. First time she was molested and chased and hurt badly, left to die (open fracture to her left leg, broken jaw), but she didn't die. The care at the sanctuary after that was bad. They didn't bring her a vet, they decided to put her asleep without contemplating the owners, and left her in pain. Babette forced them to get her to a vet and have her operated. Her leg was amputated and her jaw set. After a few days she was improving, but in the break of the head caretaker she was hurt badly again. She was found badly in shock and with strange bloodstains on her side. Another visit by the vet didn't help her and she died that night.
But we won't rest until there's justice. The sanctuary Stichting Leeuw at Landgoed Hoenderdaell, Anna Paulowna/Netherlands have to take responsibility for this cruel act, even if done by the owner and one of the caretakers. Until then no animals should be in their care anymore.
Justice for poor little NINA - please do sign and share this petition!
It is about time people and organisations like this don't get away with "incidents" like this threatening the welfare of animals so badly that they die. If you sign this petition you sign against abuse of animals in general, and you show you care to what happened to the innocent little Nina, who didn't deserve to die like this. She was in the hearts of so many people, no one wants to forget this without a fight and just go on. What will happen next if we don't take action???? So please sign and share as much as you can.

We want a genuine and truthful explanation (not the one we now have on b/w which was based on not possible and untrue facts, as we can prove and already did!). The sanctuary must take responsibility for this "incident", investigate and make sure this doesn't happen again.
