Asda And Tesco Please Ban Halal Meat!

It is because of that petition, I am starting this one. This abattoir was owned and operated by Mr Meats Wholesale Ltd (now Central Meat Company). Not only is this company providing halal meat for the Birmingham Indoor Meat Market, but it is providing halal meat for Tesco and Asda supermarkets.

For six years their now-closed abattoir in Digbeth was the most filthy and sadistically cruel abattoir in British history. The Foods Standards Agency knew exactly what was happening here but did nothing. For six years every day thousands of sheep and cattle arrived here from the remote corners of the UK to meet a fate worse than death. This included 'spent' dairy cows and unwanted dairy calves. The old, infirm and the very young were left to die in the back yard. The rest refusing to budge because of the awful stench permeating from the rotting carcasses within and without the abattoir, were beaten savagely and dragged by ropes to the 'killing floor'. Here they had their throats slit and were left to writhe around in pain on the dirty and filthy floor. In a few days' time this same abattoir will re-open with the Food Standards Agency's blessing. This meat company wasn't fined nor was anyone charged with animal cruelty.

The halal meat industry is cruel beyond imagination. Firstly, there is the huge cultural gap between how Muslims and the British treat animals. Islam is centuries behind when it comes to humane animal slaughter. Secondly, the halal meat industry is fast becoming big business in the UK. All major supermarkets sell halal meat. Most consumers don't even know they are eating halal meat because it is finding its way into many restaurants and fast food outlets. For example KFC buys its meat from halal companies.

There are terrible lies being told about halal meat to fool the general public into thinking halal meat is humane, and in keeping with our Animal Welfare Laws. These lies are being circulated by newspapers like The Guardian and The Times.

In the above article the journalist, Homa Khaleeli, a Muslim herself lies by claiming 90% of livestock in halal abattoirs are pre-stunned, and even if they weren't, slitting an animal's throat is actually quite humane compared to pre-stunning, she claims. Actually studies have revealed pre-stunning immediately renders an animal insensitive to pain. The bloody truth is that only 30% of livestock are pre-stunned in halal abattoirs.

Behind closed doors lies a halal meat industry that is totally unregulated. The rest of the 70% die in agony in third-world standard abattoirs. Wealthy halal meat companies can 'buy off' government-appointed vets, and meat inspectors who by law must be present in every abattoir in the land. These abattoirs are operated by Pakistani owners and slaughtermen who fail to comprehend basic humane livestock handling, humane slaughter, and basic abattoir hygiene. Terrified cattle and sheep are dragged into chaotic and filthy abattoirs using the 'roping' method. Untrained slaughtermen attack the livestock with knives and cleavers until they fall to the ground from massive blood loss.

I am not exaggerating here. I went into Birmingham Indoor Meat Market on Saturday and spoke to many of the butchers there. These are hardened men used to to seeing blood and gore in abattoirs. But even they were left shocked and sickened by how cattle and sheep were treated in Mr Meats Wholesale Ltd's abattoir by Muslims. Many of them showed me video evidence on their mobile phones. Even I was left shocked and sickened, and I have seen some terrible things in my life as an animal rights campaigner.

The only way we can stop this awful industry is by not creating a demand for halal meat in the first place. It is obvious the government is complicit in this awful tragedy that has befallen our British livestock. Thanks to the halal meat industry animal slaughter in the UK has been dragged back to the dark ages.

Please help me fight this evil industry. If Tesco and Asda stop selling halal meat, we will deliver a terrible blow to the UK halal meat industry. Please help me to help them. I can't do this without you. I want my British supporters to contact Tesco an Asda and demand an end to halal meat. We need to put pressure on all supermarkets to label all meat that is halal. We must also stop eating red meat and chicken because the chances are it was brutally killed in a halal abattoir. Join me for the biggest fight of my life. Thank you.
