The Great Barrier Reef is once again under threat.
Of all threats to the reef, by far the biggest concern at the moment, is the expansion of industrial ports, dredging and increased shipping....this is what is being proposed and accepted by the federal government at the moment. Plans to expand Abbot Point are one of the most controversial environmental matters inherited by the new minister. 17 million tonnes of sediment already comes down from the rivers because of bad land management.
The Government has claimed it is a protector of the Reef but the current proposal showed that is a hollow claim.
We need a total ban on dumping of the dredge spooils in the GBRMP area and also a stop to the expansion of industrial ports affecting traffic over and around the reef.
Dear Mr Butler,
we care about the Great Barrier Reef and dont want it devastated by foreign companies who dont care what happens to it.
Please stop the expansion of the industrial ports into the GBRMP area, . ...this includes the dumping of the dredging spoils from this expansion.
Too much damage is already being done by these super tankers .
Please think of the future of the Reef so that our children can enjoy the wonders we take for granted.
